Playable Species are a selection of creatures present in the worlds of SURGE! that players may assume the identity and control of during gameplay. The Core Rulebook offers seven Playable Species: Djinn, Human, Momen, Peri, Ponturi, Subtan, and Wodell. Each Playable Species have its own history, culture, and strengths. In addition, GMs may add stand-alone compendiums or home-grown Playable Species of their own to the available selections. In addition, this page will also cover experimental Playable Species as well.
Each page dedicated to a Playable Species will discuss the anatomy, cultures, behaviors, Default Trait, and Chosen Trait of each Playable Species. It will also clarify how certain Passives, such as Movement Speed, Recovery Points, and Menace are determined or impacted for each species.
Traits
Once a playable species has been selected, two traits are added to a Character Sheet: Standard Traits are a given trait just for selecting a Playable Species. This trait will give some Attribute Point towards an Attribute Score or provide a unique ability.
Chosen Traits are selected from a list of traits that are specific to that Playable Species. In a similar way, these will either give some Skill Point towards a Skill Score, or provide a unique ability.
